A well known local pub near Braunstone Gate, Leicester closed down on Tuesday night.
I’ve been going along to the P&T as it’s known for years and it’s a shame to see this old Victorian pub be closed down and demolished.
Some blame De Montfort University, some blame its rapacious owners – some just think its time had passed.
This is the picture appearing in the local paper.

Midnight – Tuesday 24th Nov, 2004. The final gathering outside of the Pump and Tap
For the technically curious, Canon 1ds Mk3 3200ISO (-2/3 EV) 14mm 2.8L II 30th@f/2.8 handheld – RAW processed in ACR. Works well as a print even at A2 size.
It’s been a tradition of the pub to take a picture of everyone present at closing on Christmas day. The pub will probably be demolished in a few weeks – so no final Christmas drink.
Suffice to say, the authorities involved in all this didn’t pop in for a drink. Almost everything was gone by the time the doors closed.

Pump and Tap runs out of beer 24th Nov 2009
The crowd outside was not still for long once I’d taken a picture

People in the street as the Pump and Tap closes
Well, it was fun while it lasted…

The heavy rain started just as the pub closed – not everyone was bothered

Keith explains tilt and shift lenses
Keith has written a book that looks at the many ways that tilt/shift lenses can benefit your photography from a technical and creative point of view. If not in the UK check for import issues and maybe try an on-line bookshop. Keith has no connection with sales of the book.
