Using Hahnemuhle Natural Line papers

I’ve been testing the four Hahnemuhle Natural Line papers with the Epson P5000 pigment ink printer

These papers include different fibres in them apart from the usual materials for art papers.

The four I tested are based on bamboo, hemp, agave and sugar cane

  • Sugar Cane Natural Line 300 gsm, 70% sugar cane, 30% cotton, natural white
  • Agave Natural Line 290 gsm, 70% agave fibre, 30% cotton, white
  • Hemp Natural Line 290 gsm, 60% hemp fibre, 40% cotton, white
  • Bamboo Matt FineArt – smooth 290 gsm, 90% Bamboo fibre, 10% Cotton, natural white

The papers are all OBA free – for full specs see the datasheets at Hahnemuhle

The surface textures are all relatively smooth, with the Bamboo the smoothest feeling. The Bamboo and Sugar Cane are slightly warmer, but differences are not obvious.

During testing, I created ICC profiles for all four papers. For B&W printing on the P5000, the Epson ABW print mode works best.

A quick check of print linearity before and after adding a -5H correction [see below] shows that B&W performance [Bamboo] is very good.
