Inkee GC12 light stick Controls

There are push button controls and a small, but very clear display

GC12 light stick controls

The button areas control brightness and colour temperature from 2700K to 6500K

Using the light

The power button needs to be held for 3 seconds to start – a precaution against accidental powering up.

GC12 light stick power lock

The lamp is supplied partially charged. For first use, turn it on at 100% and wait for the light to flatten the battery. Then charge fully, ideally from a USB C power supply, but the supplied USB A to USB C adapter will work off an older style port [5V 2A] albeit somewhat slower.

The specs for charging say:

Can be used for 75 minutes at full power, supports up to 15W fast charging and only takes 120 minutes to fully charge from 0%.

GC12 light stick usb c port

The USB socket has a cover, contributing to the overall IP66 water resistance rating.

Usefulness?

The device is light weight and very easy to use. The lighting is even and of good quality. I note that if you need absolute colour accuracy, then creating a custom DNG profile may be of help [I use a Colorchecker passport for this – I’ve an example of doing this in a Kaiser lamp review]

My only concern is that as a soft plastic inflatable device is that you need to pack it very carefully if taking it somewhere, and that repeated tight folding may affect the LED strip.

Treat it with some care!

Note that round patch on the back. This is one of the attachment magnets – take care, these are very strong magnets

Keith has written a book that looks at the many ways that tilt/shift lenses can benefit your photography from a technical and creative point of view. If not in the UK check for import issues and maybe try an on-line bookshop. Keith has no connection with sales of the book.
