Printing a big B&W fine art print – full BW print workflow
– from image to paper

I’ve had the Fuji GFX100S medium format camera here for a short review and as a result, have captured quite a few images I’ve thought worthy of printing.

Using a 100MP colour image captured with the Fuji GFX100S, I’ll go through his B&W print workflow for a large monochrome print of an oak tree.

I’m looking at image capture, processing and editing/sharpening for print.  For this particular image I used Nik Silver Efex Pro for the colour to B&W conversion. There are other many ways of doing the conversion – this one worked for this image. I’ve used the Nik tool for many years and have lots of related articles [Nik Silver Efex review]

The print is made, using a Epson P5000 printer, using the specific B&W print mode [ABW]. The printing is direct from Photoshop, but there is no reason you couldn’t use Epson Print Layout

The paper is Innova IFA45 Exhibition Cotton Gloss 335gsm paper on a 17″ roll.

There is a lot more about B&W print workflow in my ‘Making of” video for a large black and white print.

There is a detailed article here about that print
