Datacolor have announced the SpyderCheckrVideo, a reference card set for video colour management.

This is the press announcement for the product. I’ve got one here and will be exploring aspects of its use when making my YouTube videos, but remember, I’, a still photographer by profession, not a video maker.

The device is in a hard case and includes several different [replaceable] cards.

Datacolor Launches Brand New Spyder Checkr Video Colour Reference Tool

Datacolor, a global leader in colour management solutions, introduces the revolutionary Spyder Checkr Video. This is a cutting-edge colour reference solution that works with video vector scopes, waveform monitors and a variety of professional video editing software solutions to ensure accurate video colour and exposure.

Colorcard and diagram

Spyder Checkr Video offers the ability to quickly and precisely colour calibrate one or multiple cameras, lenses, and sensor combinations. It does this using a colour profile, ensuring colour accuracy at the start of shooting, in addition to streamlining the post-production workflow for a seamless video editing experience.

The patent-pending Spyder Checkr Video colour card system is designed to leverage how video is processed for more precise, nuanced colour accuracy. It is intuitive for video novices and professionals alike. The colour card includes 12 colour patches in a unique configuration with a black and white colour patch in the middle, plus six skin tone tiles. The system also comes with a video case with four cards installed, and five interchangeable, high-gloss video colour target cards for more saturated colour, wider colour gamut and easier flare identification.

To reduce fatigue, improve handling when shooting, and mitigate application errors, the Spyder Checkr Video features an exclusive ergonomic design that has been purposefully engineered to fit in the hand and prevent fingers from casting shadows onto the cards. Additionally, the Spyder Checkr Video offers the flexibility to add or swap Spyder Checkr Photo cards for a truly customised photo/video reference tool that is cost-effective, promotes sustainable efficiencies, and offers unmatched flexibility.

SpyderCheckrVideo

“When designing the Spyder Checkr Video, our goal was to create a portable and user-friendly colour reference chart that would set a new benchmark in the industry,” said Casey Krugman, product manager at Datacolor. “With the first-of-its-kind advanced colour reference tool, Datacolor is providing quick and impeccable colour accuracy whether you’re on the go or working on location.”
