iFootage Anglerfish SL1 130BNA
I’ve been testing the 130 Watt SL1 130BNA model of COB LED light and covered many aspects in a video.
It’s a light I’ve got for expanding our YouTube video-making capabilities, but also for potential use on some of my industrial photography. As such I was also interested in the capabilities of the new ‘low blue light] LEDs which promise a better colour rendition.
I’ll be re-visiting the capabilities of the lamp with further testing in due course.
The speadsheet and graphs referred to in the video are included in this article.

This can be controlled via the rear settings or via the iFootage Lumin software, which I installed on my iPad and iPhone [[Android version available]

Testing CCT accuracy
Using my Datacolor Lightmeter, I’m able to measure the effective output and CCT of the light.
Measurements at 10/25/50/100% settings were taken at 200K steps to give the data shown here [click on any image to view full size]
Luminance values are relative – as measured by the sensor at the same position.
Looking at output vs CCT setting, the dual LED lamp shows in the variation of output with set CCT.
The second chart shows measured vs set CCT values.
The key thing to note is that measured CCT varies with brightness [at the same CCT setting] and that this is much less linear at low output settings.
The numerical values are shown for 10% and 25% output settings.
How is the light to use?
It’s well built and has a capable and well padded bag to carry it. The fan [I had it set on Auto] is very quiet.
If your LED lighting is more than a few years old, the improvement in light quality will be noticeable, although for product photo use I’d still want to make some custom DNG profiles.
I also had the full size Bowens fit adapter which allows for larger/standard lighting modifiers. By having its own lighting stand attachment, it means that you don’t need to worry about the weight of the modifier pulling on the mount of the lamp.
There is an optional battery grip available too – it takes V mount batteries.
Control software [iFootage Lumin+]
This is simple to use and offers refinements like being able to control and memorise presets for groups of lights.
My only reservations being the slightly involved registration requirements and that a few labels in the display were still in Chinese. These niggles didn’t really affect the actual utility of the software though.

Keith explains tilt and shift lenses
Keith has written a book that looks at the many ways that tilt/shift lenses can benefit your photography from a technical and creative point of view. If not in the UK check for import issues and maybe try an on-line bookshop. Keith has no connection with sales of the book.
