The Canon iPF6300 printer
A big thanks to Canon UK, who today turned up at the Northlight offices with an iPF6300 printer.
I’ll be writing up a detailed review in a while, after I’ve put this new printer through its paces (more details below)

It’s a 24″ width printer, which means that taken off its stand, it fits in the back seat of a VW Golf, and the doors close.
Here it is, before we unloaded it (and I noticed that it is indeed more heavily built than the iPF6100 I looked at last year)

It’s a 12 colour printer that is supposed to have ‘just about every aspect improved’ over the iPF6100 (see my iPF6100 review for my thoughts on its predecessor)
The printer is quickly set up on its stand in our test lab, and we’ve done a couple of quick test prints, after loading a roll of some 240g satin photo paper.

Having just used it to print out some 30+ wedding pictures still due to various relative since our wedding in March, I can appreciate the speed and image quality.

The maximum print thickness is listed as 1.5mm and front loading does look to be a straight path.
Although I’ve installed all the drivers, the PDF manual has not actually been installed, as I just discovered…

A bit difficult to say about set-up, since I had a Canon LFP engineer here giving me a full demo after we got it out of his car…
Lot of profiles supplied – a quick test on the roll of paper I’ve got looks good, but I’ll be delving into this in a lot more detail for the write up
The prints shown in the blog feel more robust – I’ll be looking at this aspect as well

Just turned up this afternoon, and only with a roll at the moment, but this is an area I’m keen to look at, since it could have been better in the 6100

1) How is set-up documentation and ease of use? I’ve owned an Epson 7600 where this was fair, and an HP Z3100 where it was quite good.
2) Does Canon provide decent profiles for their own papers, or are custom profiles necessary?
3) The iPF6300 is reputed to produce prints that are far more scratch resistant than before. True? My HP Z3100 was awful in this respect; the slightest touch from a fingernail or the corner of another print would instantly score and burnish a print. A big improvement in this respect would be extremely welcome.
