Photography training and teaching

Digital Photography courses, seminars and lectures

At Northlight Images we are not worried by the prospect of people undertaking their own photography -- we know that our clients value the creative insight and technical skills that come as standard in all our commercial photography.

Our commercial photography courses are designed to fit -your- precise needs and cover a very wide range of material at whatever level of complexity you want.

Many corporate clients want to take their own photographs for internal and web use. Northlight Images offers in-house training covering photography and all aspects of digital image manipulation. We will help you get the most out of the equipment you already have and can help you decide whether it is truly adequate for your needs.

Custom photographic training:

We've more details of specific services on other pages:

We also provide commercial and landscape photography training for course organisers and training locations around the UK and abroad.

We work throughout the UK and speak at international seminars and conferences.

Keith Cooper also teaches specialist aspects of photography, such as landscape, digital black and white, and fine art printing to individuals and companies or as part of other organisations' courses.

As a qualified adult tutor (C&G 7307) and university lecturer Keith appreciates the varying needs of learners.

As well as his teaching and practical photography experience, in September 2011, Keith was invited to join X-Rite's 'Coloratti'

  • "X-Rite's Coloratti includes the world's top professional photographers, a group whose vision, passion, leadership, and partnership are recognized and valued by X-Rite. Coloratti photographers are highly respected by their peers and are admired by up-and-coming professionals, enthusiasts, and students alike."

Photography training costs

The costs listed (above right) are for individual training sessions. Booking a series of sessions can qualify for extra discounts - please do call to discuss this, if you feel it might benefit your organisation.

What did you want to know?

One of the difficulties we have in explaining what we can teach, is that there is just so much you can choose from.

Our courses can be tailored to be as general or as specific as you need.

Say, for example, you have some film photography knowledge and want to learn more about using your skills in a digital environment? A typical day's course might include:

Several on-line versions of Keith Cooper's photography courses are available on this site. They are free to use for personal and non commercial use.

An example from his introductory digital photography course covers Basic Image manipulation with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

If you already have basic skills in Photoshop, then the whole of the course is available in two half day one-to-one workshops (using Photoshop or Elements).

There are many more tutorial and articles on this site aiming to teach different techniques and skills in photography and printing.

Digital imaging Lectures / Presentations / Seminars

Keith provides lecturing and seminars for commercial organisations.

An example would be a series of talks delivered to the UK mapping agency, covering the technology behind their digital imaging activities. The talks were designed to give a much wider appreciation of digital imaging technology to various mapping and photogrametry staff.

Seminars are customised to meet your organisation's needs at any level of technical detail and can cover topics as diverse as:

Learn to use your camera

The photo below was taken at one of our series of training sessions for a property services comapny.

The (new) cameras had just been given out to everyone (14 people), and the group was taking a break, after spending half an hour familiarising themselves with the basics of using a DSLR camera.

We often get asked what cameras to buy -- it's a tricky question with so many now on the market, but we've decided that by not directly selling hardware, we're in a better position to offer unbiased honest advice.

Specialised photographic equipment

We're happy to organise courses covering any of the specialist photographic equipment we use here at Northlight.

One example would be how to utilise devices such as the GigaPan mount shown below, along with specialist software, such as Autopano Giga.

Keith has written an article, showing just how he used this kit to make the recently exhibited 14 metre print of Leicester city centre at dusk.
