Installing Canon software without a CD?

Some time ago I needed to install my Canon EOS software onto a new computer. As is the way of these things, I couldn’t find the CD.
No problem I thought, I’ll just download the software from Canon…
One minor problem – Canon only has software updaters available. In other words, you need to have the software [...]

True Black and White – Canon B/W printer software

During our recent testing of the Canon iPF6300 I was able to try out the True Black and White printer driver software from BowHaus.

It works very well and should be able to deliver extremely good quality B/W prints from the Canon large format printers.

A review of the Canon iPF6300 printer

We’ve had a Canon iPF6300 printer on loan from Canon UK for a while and have just published a review.
It’s one of our longer reviews to date, but there’s a lot you can do with a printer like this.

The short version is, that barring a few minor gripes, this is one [...]

Canon iPF6300 arrives for review

A big thanks to Canon UK, who today turned up at the Northlight offices with an iPF6300 printer.
I’ll be writing up a detailed review in a while, after I’ve put this new printer through its paces.
If you’ve any specific questions – please leave a comment or email me?
It’s a 24″ width printer, which means that [...]

A visit to IPEX 2010

Canon iPF8300 | i1Profiler | HP z5200ps
There is a lot of new and big stuff at IPEX – I’m not a great one for trade shows, they are great for visiting a few key people, but the larger ones can quickly feel a bit of an ordeal.
This blog covers a few products I went to [...]

Canon Pixma Pro9500 MkII

I’ve had a Canon 9500 mk2 printer on loan from Canon for a while.
It’s a solidly built A3+ pigment ink printer that has produced some very fine prints. The 10 ink system includes both photo and matte black ink, so no wasteful ink swaps needed…

Architecture and the 7D

Some photos in the fog
Yesterday morning I was invited to visit to the new ‘digital media centre’ that’s just opened in Leicester. Phoenix Square has a mix of cinema, work places, production facilities and a range of apartments.
I was not officially wearing my ‘photographer hat’ this visit – since I was representing a local business [...]

1Ds3/7D quick detail check

How sharp are the images from the Canon EOS 7D? I believe there has been some discussion on the matter
It was suggested (thanks) I take some shots at f/6.3 with the 7D and 1Ds3.
Taking both cameras outside, I picked one of my sharper lenses…
Here are some 100% crops, processed in ACR with no sharpening
Taken [...]

Some EOS 7D examples

The other day I had to go to the local Post Office, so I took the Canon 7D along with me. All these shots are taken at 800 ISO at f/8 with a EF24-70 2.8L lens.
I’d not expect to print such images at any great size, but I was interested to see how the new [...]

Looking at AF and manual focus for the 7D

A few tests of AF and AF tracking for the Canon EOS 7D
As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t do sports photography, or photograph animals/birds very often, so my looking at AF performance with the 7D is not going to be an exhaustive study
That said, the AF system in my 1Ds3 is no slouch [...]
