i1 Publish
We've got the full 'everything' version of the software, called i1 Publish Pro, and hope to cover most of its functionality in due course.
i1Photo Pro and i1Publish Pro include i1Profiler software, an i1Pro spectrophotometer, PANTONE Color Manager software, ColorChecker Proof target, mini ColorChecker Classic target, and ColorChecker camera calibration software. i1Publish includes all of the above except for the spectrophotometer.
Some features however are way beyond what we normally use during our work, so I'll be including links to other reviews and articles as I find them.
If you've used older versions of X-Rite software, there are a number of upgrade options.
Some previous functionality, such as profile editing and ICC camera and scanner profiling have not made it into V1.0 of the software.
Updates

More detailed reviews of specific functionality
- i1 Profiler Monitor profiling
- i1 Profiler RGB printer profiling
- ColourChecker Passport camera software (our original review of this package)
- Upgrade options
- License Agreement - very important if you supply profiles for others, applies to existing s/w if you upgrade.
Information
Installation
The software is protected by a USB dongle, which you'll receive if you buy the more advanced versions, or for versions with an i1 Pro spectrophotometer, the device itself holds your software activation data.
As you can see, it's not a small piece of software.

i1 Publish upgrades
We make a specific point of not selling hardware, but if you found our articles and reviews of help please consider buying a calibrator, or any other items at all, via our link with Amazon.

It won't cost any more (nor less we're afraid) but will contribute towards the running costs of our site.

Note that you can still use your old profiling software (such as ProfileMaker Pro) but you may get some unfamiliar messages appear when plugging in devices.
These are aimed at avoiding driver conflicts and represent a new approach from X-Rite towards device communications.
The ColorMunki is -not- supported in this software for any use - monitor or print.
The i1 Display 2 colorimeter is not supported for monitor calibration and profiling.
The software default to opening in a single window, it can however be expanded to full screen.
There are no preferences or settings to adjust. Authorisation and registration is handled via the main startup screen.
If you currently use ProfileMaker Pro or i1 Match for producing profiles for others, be sure to read the fine print of the new software license, it is much more restrictive - there are a lot of changes that could seriously affect your business, including altering your existing license.
I'll go into more details in the various reviews I'll be writing up, but here are a few of the fundamental features.
The software works in two modes: Basic and Advanced
Here's a printer profiling test target I created (in this software) for profiling the iPF8300.
2938 patches on an A3+ sheet

The profiling workflow is shown along the bottom

Notice how you can produce a second iterative patch set, although I found that after nearly 3000 patches in the first sheet, there was no noticeable difference in print quality (a few numbers improved, but not so as you'd notice in a print)
There is also a ColorChecker proof option where you can see just how closely your print matches a ColorChecker card, in the light you've selected.
Here's an i1 Profiler target coming out of our iPF8300

Anyway, there are tons more features... I'll look at them in due course!

X-Rite supplied information
The 3 versions of i1 Profiler are:
i1Basic Pro is a solution for high-end monitor profiling, monitor and printing quality verification, and spot colour measurement. Designed for imaging professionals, i1Basic Pro is ideal for an effective workflow in a colour-managed ecosystem. i1Basic Pro includes i1Profiler software, PANTONE Color Manager software and an i1Pro spectrophotometer.
i1Photo Pro is specifically designed for photo professionals to manage their RGB workflow from camera to display and projector to print. Thanks to the iterative profiling capability of the i1Profiler software, professional photo users will enjoy the highest quality colour results that especially target highlight and shadow details and delivers greater colour accuracy for more neutral greys and natural skin tones.
i1Publish (a standalone software package) and i1Publish Pro are the ultimate, fully-featured ICC profiling solutions for graphic arts professionals that need to organize and manage their complete RGB, CMYK and CMYK+N (CMYK plus any 4) prepress workflows, complete with new assurance validation and verification functions using digital standards. This includes a display QA function to check soft proofing for ISO (G7, SWOP, PSO, Japan Color) and a printer QA function to check print quality using ISO media wedges (IDEAlliance ISO Control Wedge or Fogra Media Wedge).
Current 'known issues' with V1.0
- Must have administrative privileges to install software.
- Monitor calibration does not work when multiple monitors are in mirror mode (this issue affects Windows installations only.)
- Windows 7 and Vista only – During monitor profile creation, you may see a message stating that the display’s colour scheme is being changed. This is temporary to allow proper in-screen measurement. The display will be restored to it’s previous state after the measurements are completed.
- You may not be able to load display LUTs if you are running in Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop.
- i1 Profiler allows the import of CGATS measurement files from other applications. However, the colour engine has been optimised to work with the patch sets generated within i1Profiler. The profile quality from profiles made entirely within the i1 Profiler workflow will exceed profiles made from legacy targets and measurements.
- When saving spectral data from other application to use in i1 Profiler, scale the reflectances from 0-1.0. Data scaled from 0-100 will not be interpreted correctly in i1 Profiler.
- Although you can print test charts directly from i1 Profiler, it is highly recommended that you save the chart as TIFF files and print from the application or applications in which you will be using the ICC profiles.
- i1 Profiler uses OpenGL to display the profile’s 3D gamut. If you encounter a problem with the gamut preview, make sure that your video card drivers are up to date.
- i1 Profiler does not support multiple connections of the same type of device (two i1 Pro instruments for example.)
The application may lose its connection to a measurement device if the computer goes into sleep or hibernate mode. If this happens, disconnect and reconnect the device to restore the connection. - If you encounter any problems connecting to your measurement device, please disconnect and reconnect the device to restore the connection.
- Make sure your i1 iSis power button is on when you connect the USB. If you connect with the button off then turn the power on, the i1 iSis will not be seen.
- If Optimising a profile using an image or spot colours, adjust the margins of your target to form a 2-row target for the i1 iO. Single row targets are not supported.
Upgrade options
If you are an owner of a most recent version of i1 Match, ProfileMaker 5.x or MonacoPROFILER 4.x solution, you are eligible for an upgrade to i1Publish (Pro). The upgrade package includes the i1Publish software suite (PANTONE Color Manager, ColorChecker Camera Calibration Software) and directly supports any revision of i1Pro, i1iO and i1iSis instruments.
Warning - read the software license carefully - this may seriously affect your business if you provide profiles for others.
Depending on your original purchase (coming from an Advanced or Basic Solution) you can go for either Upgrade A (lower price) or Upgrade B (higher price).
| i1Basic; i1Design LT; i1Photo LT; i1Pro OEM | Upgrade B |
| i1Photo; i1Photo SG; i1Proof; i1XT; i1XTreme | Upgrade A |
| ProfileMaker 5.x | Upgrade A |
| MonacoProfiler 4.x | Upgrade B |
The Upgrade A and B just differ in the price but include the same level of software licenses, features, and complementary components.

License agreement
I've included this here, since there is no copy installed with the software that you can check afterwards. If you supply profiles for other people in any way then do read it carefully, particularly if you upgrade existing software, since it implies a retroactive alteration of the license for that (old) software. From a brief reading of it, it looks as if rights to offer profiles for 3rd parties have been restricted, you can't offer remote profiling, and you can't supply more than 50 profiles (in total) in a year.
