All our teaching is customised to individual clients requirements, so can include specialist aspects such as colour management and digital camera profiling if need be.
Whilst we can bring along an impressive array of (expensive) equipment to show what can be done, we find it much better to help people get the best out of their own set-up.
We are also happy to advise you on cameras and equipment for product photography - although we do not actually sell such items ourselves.
Our training courses are held at your own preferred location, where you will be taking your own product photographs and pack shots.
We have more specific web pages covering:
This site also has free downloadable versions of some of Keith Cooper's image manipulation tutorials.
A picture from some food photography at a local restaurant.
Food photography requires great technical skills as well as good food. We've also provided training to experienced photographers, wanting to expand their skills in such areas as colour management.

How long is a training course?
Since our product photography courses are customised to your requirements, it all depends on what you want to learn and your existing skill levels.
We have provided courses from half a day to three days.
This photo was taken during one of Keith's product photography training sessions.
The location may not be ideal, but we understand the pressures on office space, and can tell you what will work and what will not.
As ever, training is carried out at your site, using your equipment and your products.
An example from a recent course
In this instance, exploring the nature of reflected light (and its absence) for photographing a very nice bottle of Malt Whisky.
Note the cropped image on the laptop screen
If you are looking to buy equipment later, we can always bring a range of portable studio photographic equipment to demonstrate.Note -- we don't sell equipment, but are happy to advise you on what's available.
In the example below, all the equipment (including camera and laptop) was supplied by ourselves for the session.

Photography in your business
The picture shows a test setup using continuous lighting.
It was taken during a product photography training day at a distribution centre for a major UK retailer, who were looking at setting up their own full time product photography facility.
We are happy to work with whatever equipment you might already have in place.
A key aspect of product photography is understanding how to best process your images. We can include aspects such as camera RAW image capture and sharpening techniques.
You really don't need much space for smaller product photography
The room below is another example of the equipment that a client already had in place.

Here's some jewellery photographed on a recent course.
Subjects included making use of depth of field and retouching images to look at their best on the web

Wedding tiara from SilverTree Jewellery Design.
How many people can attend?
Courses are aimed at individuals, or 2-3 people at most. The training is very much hands-on, so you will be taking lots of photos and working on them.
We are happy for more people to attend, or watch what is going on, but do note that this can reduce the amount of 'hands on' coverage we can provide.
This photo of Keith Cooper (rear) was taken during one of his digital product photography courses in Leicester, in this case how to light and shoot products for your web site.
Keith spent several years at Loughborough University as a lecturer, and in addition has a C&G Adult Education Certificate.
Courses are aimed at giving useful practical information for you to take better photos and make better use of them.
What about afterwards?
If you have been on a Northlight Images training course, we are happy to answer technical questions and clear up any related issues you might have about the course materials.
We know that often, people have plenty of other work to do in their jobs, and after a week or so, what was clear on the day may have faded a bit...
How much does all this cost?Precise course/seminar costs are based on duration, location* and number of people attending the course. Typical prices for a full day of training
For specific photography training we always suggest numbers are best kept to 2-3 at most, to maximise interactive involvement. Lectures and conference presentation rates depend on length of session and location. * An additional charge for travel expenses (and any overnight stay) may apply to courses outside of Leicestershire. Please note - we provide training for companies at your chosen location, however we are unable to provide training services here at our Leicester office. Course organisers and venues - please contact us directly to discuss your requirements and how we can work together. |
We can bring a range of our lighter more transportable equipment to show you if needed.
Please give us a call if you would like to discuss what we can offer.
