Major new photography exhibition – ‘Leicester from a different angle’

From May 2nd to May 31st 2012 , Leicester-based architectural and landscape photographer Keith Cooper of Northlight Images will be exhibiting a collection of large format architectural photographs of Leicester, at the Leicester People’s Photography Gallery. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a single highly detailed 14 metre long print of the city centre, the largest photograph of the city ever produced.

Keith Cooper is exhibiting a collection of his large architectural images of his home City of Leicester, at the Leicester People’s Photography Gallery in the city. The exhibition opens on May 2nd for one month in what is the largest photographic gallery in the Midlands. Although the locations may be familiar, the images aim to present them in new and striking ways, in particular one single 14 metre long photograph of the city centre, the largest photograph of Leicester ever produced. The exhibition promotes the City of Leicester in new and interesting ways both to visitors and residents alike.

As a professional commercial and architectural photographer, Keith Cooper combines his considerable technical expertise as well as his artistic skills, in creating this series of photographs that focus on Leicester locations – but present them in new and striking ways. The single 15 metre panoramic photograph of Leicester City Centre at dusk pushes the boundaries of what is technically possible in a single print and is the largest and most detailed photograph of Leicester ever produced. The image file alone spans 5 DVDs worth of storage space. Many of the prints are only possible through recent advances in camera and printing equipment.

“There is just so much of our city that people don’t see” commented Cooper, when asked what inspired the collection.

“I want people who live here to appreciate a bit more of our city’s heritage” he adds, noting “it’s where I’ve chosen to live – it’s my home”

Keith Cooper is a noted writer on technical matters concerning photography, who also tests cameras, printers and photographic equipment for a number of major manufacturers. His Northlight Images web site is one of the top 30 photographic web sites in the world, receiving over 5 million visits in 2011.
