It's early spring and there is no snow, but the warmth has not yet given the aspens that delicate wash of pale green that they take on when just coming into leaf. Within a few weeks there will be a bright yellow-green tinge to this scene and the groups of trees will have lost some of the defiant look that they take on in groups amongst the snow.
