The three adjustment knobs of the head allow for small and precise adjustments of the head in three axes. I tried this briefly at the show and it’s very nicely made, with very little backlash in the gearing.

BENRO PROVIDES ULTIMATE CONTROL WITH ITS NEW PRECISION GEARED HEAD
Another highly anticipated Benro launch will be unveiled at this year’s Photography Show at the NEC.
This will be the first opportunity for media and photographers alike to see and try the brand new Benro GD3WH Geared Head.
The Benro Geared Head delivers precision movement in three axes. For large movements and initial set up the gearing can be dis-engaged, then re-engaged to allow the photographer to fine tune their camera position for the perfectly framed image. The head also features three built in bubble levels to ensure perfect set up.
Unlike some other geared heads currently available, the Benro GD3WH uses an Arca-style quick release plate, allowing the photographer to switch between different types of heads without the need to change plates.
Geared heads are perfect for landscape photographers and also still life and macro images, where absolute precision is essential.
Quality assured: To ensure a smooth, accurate and long life, all components have been designed and manufactured using premium materials – including magnesium alloy in the overall construction.
The weight of the head has deliberately been kept low at just 870g, without compromising the maximum load capability of 6kg of camera equipment.
Up/down Tilt +90/-30 degrees
Landscape Tilt -90/+30 degrees
The new Benro geared head has already been out in the expert hands of several of pro photographers, for testing in the field, including extreme cold and coastal locations:
Paul Sanders, Landscape & Fine Art Photographer tested the new head during his recent coastal adventures: ‘The Benro Geared Head was an absolute pleasure to use, with superb accuracy and fine-tuning capabilities. For me, it’s crucial that my kit is lightweight, so the reduced weight (together with increased weight capacity) was a major benefit.
‘It stood up to the rigours of photographing at the coast really well. It’s possibly the best geared head on the market at that price point – and I’ll certainly be recommending it to my workshop clients.’
Aspect2i founder, Paul Gallagher also tested the new Geared Head – taking it all the way to the frozen landscapes of Japan:
‘I need a tripod head to enables me to precisely fine-tune my composition at the same time as holding the camera perfectly still in any conditions. The Benro GD3WH geared head does just that with smooth, accurate 3 way controls and solid in all three axis as well as being light. The perfect tool for my job in the landscapes of the world were compromise is not an option!’
Mark Hoskins, Benro UK Brand Manager added: ‘Over the years I’ve been regularly asked for a quality geared head that is reliable, light weight, will support a serious camera/lens combination and is Arca-style quick release plate compatible. Benro has delivered a product that meets these criteria spot on, with a classic design that means photographers will be familiar with the head operation, and based on the feedback from our in-the-field pro testing we’re confident it will perform well in the most harsh conditions.’
The new Benro Geared Head comes with a 3 year warrantee as standard – which can be extended to 5 years (free of charge) once the product is registered.
