Fixes and tips for the Epson 4800 large format printers

problems with the sp4800?

Assorted info I've come across for sorting problems with the Epson 4800 printer.

I'm hoping to have a full review of the latest 4880 on the site before long

The What's New Page gives a quick overview of the hundreds of pages of articles and picture on this site.

Latest articles on our site: >> Spyder3 Print V3.5 review The latest ICC printer profiling system from Datacolor (aka ColorVision) is reviewed. Featuring faster operation and a wide range of profile generation options, it can be used for building printer profiles for colour and (with additional measurements) Black and White printing. For more experienced users it offers multiple version profile building (from the same set of measurements) and profile editing.

4800 Maintenance request (MNT REQ 0088 code)

MNT REQ 0088 refers to the printer clock/clock battery/time. If this fails, it causes the printer to request a Power Clean every time you switch it on

First reset the clock, either via the printer controls or using the LFP remote panel.

If this doesn't work then a battery replacement is needed

Clearing paper jams from your Epson 4800 (not exactly difficult ;-)

Sometimes it's possible for roll paper to get jammed in the 4800. When this happens, printing will stop and the LCD will display 'PAPER JAM'

  1. Turn off the printer, open the roll paper cover, and release the paper lever.
  2. Cut the paper at the paper insertion slot, and remove the roll paper.
  3. Remove the jammed paper from the front or back of the printer.
  4. If necessary, open the top cover and remove the jammed paper.
  5. Make sure the paper light is on and LOAD PAPER is displayed on the LCD panel.
  6. Reload paper

Cleaning dried ink

You really only need to check out the household products line at your local supermarket ;-)

I've written a short guide about 'cleaning inkjet printers'
